Simon Rinas is a research fellow at the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) in Bochum, Germany. At CAIS, he focuses on the geopolitics of technology and concepts of tech sovereignty with regards to emerging technologies. Simon has gained professional experience in both academia and the corporate world by serving as the head of Ericsson’s government relations office in Berlin, as a substitute to the assistant professorship for politics and internet at Hildesheim University, an associate doctoral researcher at the Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society, and during a junior engagement with Deutsche Telekom. Simon studied political science in Rostock, Duisburg and Brussels and recently concluded his doctoral studies on the European Union’s communications policy in the internet age. During his master’s studies, he received a scholarship from the German Academic Scholarship Foundation.
